Wool & Woolen Design Development Centre (WWDDC) project
Solina, Srinagar.
The Project was divided into (2) two parts-Phase-I and Phase-II.

Phase –I
Completed successfully

Phase-I
Phase 1st of integrated Project for Wool &Woollen Design Dev. Centre was sanctioned in the year 2005 with an in-put of Rs. 493.77 lakhs spread over a period of four (4) years. The main features of the phase include yarn preparation, weaving, product development, design development, training, testing and setting up of centre for wool development. The project was completed successfully within the stipulated period and is presently functioning in full swing. Major achievements of the first phase of the project were setting up of a quality assurance testing laboratory with complete fabric testing, fibre testing and sample dyeing. Training to about 600 personnel has been imparted under this project in testing, CAD designing and weaving. A fully automatic Warping Machine is functional and till date thousands of warps have been provided to the weavers in centralized as well as de-centralized units. Students of different ITIs and Women’s Polytechnic College, Srinagar are getting training in the field of textiles from time to time at this project.

Phase-II

With the successful implementation of WWDDC, Phase-I, the Development Commissioner of Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India sanctioned its 2nd Phase. The main feature of Phase-II envisages overall upgradation of woollen sector in J&K by way of raw wool utilization i.e., Scouring of raw wool and setting up of spinning of woollen yarn facility, fabric processing and finishing etc.
The Development Commissioner of Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India vide letter No. 1/55/2010/DCH/J&K Pkg, dated 8.2.2019 sanctioned the project for setting up of spinning facility under J&K Wool &Woollen Design Development Centre (WWDDC, P-II) at Solina, Rambagh, Srinagar for an amount of Rs. 877.00 lakh with the completion period till March 2023.
